Simplifying Apostille Services: My Experience Helping the Midland Community
As a public notary here in Midland, Texas, one of the services I’ve grown most passionate about is apostille processing. Over time, I’ve realized how confusing this process can be for people — especially when they’re dealing with important documents destined for another country.
This blog is meant to shed light on what an apostille is, why it’s needed, and how Sun Star Notary is here to make the entire experience faster, easier, and more personal for our community.
What Is an Apostille?
An apostille is an international certificate that verifies the authenticity of a public document so it can be legally recognized in another country. It’s essentially a form of international authentication issued under the Apostille Convention of 1961, a global treaty designed to simplify the legalization of documents between participating countries. (HCCH)
When a document is apostilled, it confirms that:
The signature on the document is genuine.
The person signing had proper authority.
The seal or stamp on the document is authentic.
You might need an apostille for birth certificates, marriage certificates, school records, power of attorney forms, business contracts, or other legal documents being used abroad.
The Hague Convention vs. Non-Hague Countries
To understand how the apostille process works, it’s important to know whether the destination country is part of the Apostille Convention or not.
Hague Convention Countries:
These nations have agreed to accept the standardized apostille certificate. Once your document has an apostille attached, it’s immediately valid in that country — no further embassy or consulate steps required. (Travel.state)Non-Hague Countries:
For countries that did not sign the Hague Treaty, the process involves authentication and legalization through the U.S. Department of State and then the destination country’s embassy or consulate. It’s more complex and takes longer — but that’s where having experienced help makes all the difference.
To check whether a country is part of the Apostille Convention, you can review the official list here:

My Experience Helping Clients with Apostilles
Working on apostille cases has shown me how emotional and time-sensitive this service can be. Whether someone needs to authenticate a birth certificate for dual citizenship, a marriage certificate for immigration, or business documents for international trade, every case is personal and important.
I’ve assisted clients sending documents to Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, India, Mexico, Spain, Venezuela, and beyond — and every time, I see the relief on their faces once the paperwork is finalized and accepted.
There’s a sense of pride in knowing we helped them get one step closer to their goal, and that’s what makes this work meaningful.
We’re Here to Serve Midland — and Beyond
At Sun Star Notary, we proudly offer apostille facilitation services for both Hague and non-Hague countries. Our mission is to make the process understandable and accessible for everyone — no confusing language, no hidden steps.
We know many people out there need this service but don’t know where to start. That’s why we want to be a local, trustworthy option they can count on.
And as a bilingual professional (English & Spanish), I take pride in bridging the communication gap that often intimidates clients during this international process. I’m here to guide you from start to finish — whether it’s explaining the paperwork, reviewing translations, or coordinating with state and federal offices.
Because at the end of the day, we’re not just processing documents — we’re helping people move their lives forward.
